Worship

Worship of God is the primary function of the church. Personal prayer, meditation and worship are essential to the dynamic spiritual life. We also believe that corporate worship is an essential element in each person’s spiritual life. Just as we grow spiritually with our own families, we grow, spiritually with our larger church family. At University Christian Church, corporate worship has as its center weekly observance of the Lord’s Supper, a sacrament that was central to worship at the formation of the denomination of The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). The bread and the cup represent the body and blood of Christ, who suffered, died, and was resurrected from the dead. Every Sunday, we celebrate a small Easter, reminiscent of the resurrection of the body of Jesus. At University Christian Church, powerful preaching has always been an important element of worship. The spoken truths contained in sermons assist us in our daily lives, just as we relate Biblical truths to our living. Excellence in the music, which assists in worship, has enjoyed a long heritage at University Christian Church. The best music a congregation can offer serves as a window through which the worshiper glimpses the eternal glories of the Creator.
