Weekday School serves children ages 8 weeks through Kindergarten in a half day preschool setting. Our curriculum follows sound early childhood developmental practices and emphasizes age-appropriate activities in a relaxed, loving environment.

Weekday School is a vital part of the children's ministries at University Christian Church. As a nationally accredited ½ day preschool program, Weekday School illustrates the dedication of UCC to nurturing young children in today's fast-paced world. Founded in 1967 as a small day program, Weekday School has grown into a nationally accredited program which serves more than 300 children with a staff of dedicated early childhood professionals.

At UCC Weekday School, children are given the freedom to be creative while interacting with others their own ages. Emphasis is given to building children's self-esteem and self-confidence by attaining problem solving skills equal to their developmental stage. Children at UCC Weekday School learn through play and hands-on experiences. Lesson plans and activities are based on the importance of the whole child. Opportunities for children's growing encompass their emotional, physical and cognitive needs.

Accreditation |

The National Association for the Education of Young Children, which is the national professional organization for early childhood programs, awarded Weekday School accreditation status in March of 1992. Since that time, through regular re-accreditation visits, Weekday School has maintained the high quality demanded of accredited programs. Weekday School meets or exceeds the rigorous criteria for excellence and quality, criteria which includes facility, staff qualifications and training, low teacher-child ratios, superior curriculum and the establishment of an optimum environment for young children.

Our educational philosophy is to help young children become lifelong, enthusiastic learners.

This philosophy, based on the sound research principles that undergird the premium preschool programs in the nation, is guided by the criteria for developmentally appropriate practice as established by the NAEYC, the National Association for the Education of Young Children. Within a frame work of knowledge of developmental stages of children ages 0-5 years, we provide activities in all major areas of learning. Lesson plans and activities are based on the importance of the whole child.
Curriculum
Curriculum at Weekday School closely adheres to the best practices for early childhood programs. Our curriculum is drawn from three major sources: Addison-Wesley Active Learning Series; The Creative Curriculum and the High Scope Active Learning Program. Individual teachers and teaching teams design their classrooms and lesson plans based on the framework established in these curricula guides. Our highly skilled teachers combine activities and ideas from these sources to create the best of programs for their classes, programs which instill confidence while presenting daily opportunities for learning and discovery.

WDS Staff |
|
The staff at Weekday School consists of highly trained, dedicated teachers and administrators who work together to provide the optimum learning environment for children. Weekday School staff receives more than 500 hours of training annually in areas of early child development. The administrative staff consists of a master's level director, assistant director, director of curriculum and resources, office manager and administrative assistant. The Weekday School consists of more than 35 highly trained teachers with a combined experience of hundreds of years teaching young children.

Early Care and Enrichment Programs |

Weekday School offers a limited early care (Early Bird) and enrichment program (Discovery Time) for students. Reservations are accepted up to one month ahead when accompanied by a reservation form and required fees. Occasional reservations are also accepted on a space available basis. Drop ins are not accepted. Complete information concerning the Early Bird and Discovery Time programs is included in the enrollment packet for incoming students. Early Bird is from 8-9 a.m., DIscovery Time is from 12-2:30 p.m.

| Kindergarten |

Kindergarten at UCC is a fun place to be! UCC offers a half-day accredited kindergarten program with a 2/18 teacher/child ratio. The lead teacher and assistant teachers are state certified kindergarten teachers who provide a quality kindergarten program for children. This program strives to meet the needs of the whole child in all areas of development, while allowing each child to work at his/her own learning pace. Major learning areas include language and literacy skills including reading and writing activities, physical development, art, music, and personal and social skills. The kindergarten curriculum includes science, math, social studies, cooking, field trips, computer, small group activities, journal writing, etc. all combined in an environment that stimulates children's natural curiosity about the world around them.
Children must be five on or before September 1 of the current school year to enroll in the kindergarten program. Questions concerning the kindergarten enrollment process and the waiting list for kindergarten should be directed to the Weekday School Office at 817.926.3960.

Mayfield Resource Center |

The Mayfield Resource Center is a point of great pride and excellence at UCC. Established in 1991 as a library for the staff of WDS, the center has grown to include thousands of children's books as well as a wide selection of teaching aids. These include items for problem solving, language, math, science, music, dramatic play, puzzles, games, audio-visual aids, and large and small motor equipment. Teachers use the resource center to help them plan a great variety of activities for the classrooms. The resource center also houses many excellent parenting books and current research articles which are available for parent check out.

Weekday School Bazaar Benefits Children |

Looking for a good reason to start your holiday shopping? Mark your calendars to attend the UCC Weekday School Holiday Bazaar which is held in November of each year the in Fellowship Hall. This annual event is the main fundraiser for the school and the funds directly benefit the children.
The bazaar features gifts for baby, jewelry, toys, books, clothing and much more. Many items are handcrafted or cannot be found in stores.
Other highlights include a tearoom, Scholastic Book Fair, bake sale and silent auction. Admission is free.
