UCC Discernment Retreat

August 20 & 21

Henri Nouwen said, “Christians need a time within which they can be emptied of themselves and filled with God.” Such a discernment time is coming for UCC on August 20 and 21. You are being invited to discover for yourself and our family of faith God’s call in the midst of our transition period.

The event will be held at The Salvation Army Hobilitzell Center in Midlothian, Texas. This event will start on Friday at 7 p.m. and conclude at 2 p.m. on Saturday. The center has room for several hundred, but only over-night lodging for 60. Since we are only forty minutes away several people have said they will drive there and back on Friday and Saturday. The cost will be $25, which will include breakfast and lunch.

Our guest leader is Rev. Randy Kuss. Randy is a Disciple minister with over thirty-five years of experience in congregational, regional, denominational, and ecumenical ministries. He is known to many people at UCC in that he has worked with our youth leadership to rethink and deepen the spiritual aspect of youth ministry. Randy was a participant in the Youth Ministry and Spirituality Project at San Francisco Theological Seminary 2001-2004.

In addition to leading retreats, he is the Director of Christian Education and Youth for Speedway Christian Church, Indianapolis, IN. He is married to Deb Strock-Kuss, associate minister for Allisonville Christian Church. They have two children. He is a graduate of Phillips University and Phillips Theological Seminary. In addition to leading our retreat on Friday and Saturday, he will bring the message at all three worship services on Sunday, August 22.
