Directions Home

Briefly know as Directions Home, the vision and purpose of Fort Worth’s ten-year plan is to assure that homelessness will be a rare, short-term and non-recurring experience in Fort Worth, Texas by the year 2018.

There are three major goals.
  1. Homelessness will become rare as every year fewer households will fall out of housing and into homelessness.
  2. Homelessness will be short-term, with no one homeless more than twelve months, thus ending the chronic homelessness that currently exists.
  3. Homelessness will be non-recurring, it will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

  • Fort Worth Mayor Mike Moncrief hosted a series of meetings at which the plan was presented.
  • On May 5, 2008 a meeting was held at UCC targeted to the city’s interfaith community, both clergy and congregational leaders.
  • Following that event, the Assembly of University Christian Church met and passed a Resolution in Support of Forth Worth’s ten-year homelessness plan.  Read UCC's entire Resolution
