Spiritual Formation at UCCThe ministry of spiritual formation at University Christian Church is to create contexts and opportunities within which one might encounter the Living God. The purpose of these encounters is transformation, or as the Scriptures put it, “being formed in the image of Christ.” Such transformation has an inner (personal) and outer (social) dimension. This kind of formation is accomplished by our openness and responsiveness to the work of the Holy Spirit in our lives through: •the discipline of prayer •scriptural and spiritual reading •contemplation and silence •performing works of compassion, mercy and justice •simplicity in an over-stimulated and consumer-driven culture •Sabbath keeping and rest •spiritual friendships within community characterized by comfort and challenge •individual and group discernment (what would God have me do or be?) |
