Russ Boyd began serving as Associate Minister for Youth in October of 2007. A native of Radford, Virginia, Russ earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina as a Religion and Political Science double major in 2000. He received his Master of Divinity degree from Brite Divinity School at Texas Christian University in 2003, and was ordained by the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) after graduation. During his seminary years, Russ served as Youth Minister at Creekwood Christian Church in Flower Mound, Texas. After graduation and ordination, he accepted a call to serve as Associate Minister at Collierville Christian Church near Memphis, Tennessee.
In addition to leading UCC’s ministries for youth in grades 6-12, Russ is active in camp and conference ministry as a counselor and director, is part of the Disciples Youth Ministry Network leadership team, and leads a Theological Reflection Group for the supervised ministry program at Brite Divinity School. A graduate of Furman University’s Army ROTC program, Russ serves as chaplain for the 341st Medical Battalion, an Army Reserve unit based on Seagoville, Texas.
Outside of church, Russ enjoys traveling, obsessing about the TV show “Lost,” using (and talking extensively about) Apple products, and dabbling in home improvement and technology-related projects. Russ’ wife, Sarah, is also a lifelong Disciple and a 2004 graduate of Texas Christian University with a degree in Habilitation of the Deaf. Currently Sarah serves as a Teacher of the Deaf at Miller Elementary School in Arlington. Additional Information:
